Tecolote Canyon Family Session
San Diego is a wonderful place to live. We have the beaches, the city, the hills, and recently I have taken to discovering some of the beautiful canyons. I was so happy when Cassandra and her family agreed to meet me for their family session at Tecolote Canyon. This particular canyon is situated beneath the gorgeous campus of USD. The recent rain we (finally) received here in San Diego had me a little nervous that Cassandra and her little one would get their beautiful white dresses all muddy, but luckily all of the mud puddles were mostly dried up! (But if anyone is wanting a mud session, I am totally down for that too!)
Cassandra is a fellow photographer, which made the session extra special, and a little nerve racking! She is amazingly talented and I am humbled that she wanted me to capture memories for her family. As we walked through the canyon surrounded by the smell of nature and the touch of a light breeze, I could tell that this was a family who makes the most of their time together. There are so many demands for our time and attention these days, and I strive to make each family session a time for parents to connect with their children and if we're outdoors, to connect with nature as well. Being out in the elements is good for the soul!
We found a sprawling Sycamore tree a little way down the trail and stopped there for a while. The sun illuminating the green leaves in the tree made a perfect backdrop for some photos of this family of three, so we took full advantage. I've made it a new practice to start taking individual photos of moms during family sessions, because she is usually the one behind the camera, and her children deserve to see their mother in all her singular beauty. Cassandra definitley nailed her individual photos!
The hour the four of us spent together passed quickly. Cassandra had a session of her own to photograph afterwards at a different location, otherwise I would have totally wanted to hang out and get a bite to eat! Cassandra and Tessema, you clearly have a handle on life! Your daughter is the sweetest thing, and listening to her sing as we walked back to the parking lot was icing on the cake for me. May these photos be a reminder to you of the priceless gift of family. I look forward to spending time with the three of you again in another part of this beautiful place we call home.
